Survivor Stories Submission Guidelines

Thank you for considering sharing your story with us. Survivor Stories is a collection of personal experiences — the things that happened, surprised you, challenged you, helped you, changed you, or taught you something you think might be useful to someone else.

We’re interested in what actually happened to you and what you have to say about it. Your story can be serious or funny, difficult or hopeful, practical or deeply personal. It doesn’t need to have a happy ending or a lesson attached to it.

What we're looking for

Tell us about an experience that feels worth sharing. It might be something you wish you had known beforehand, an unexpected turn in treatment or recovery, a relationship that changed, something someone did that genuinely helped, a practical discovery, or a moment that changed the way you thought about what you were going through.

Most stories will be 500–1,000 words, but shorter submissions are welcome. We would rather have a focused 300-word story than 1,000 words added simply to reach a word count.

Previously published work is welcome as long as you retain the rights necessary for us to publish it. Please tell us where and when it was previously published when you submit it.

Your name and privacy

You may publish your story using your real first name, a pseudonym, or anonymously.

We will need your real name and email address when you submit so that we can communicate with you about your story. That information does not need to appear with the published piece.

How we select and edit stories

All submissions are reviewed by RecoverEase, and submission does not guarantee publication.

We may suggest edits or edit selected pieces for length, grammar, readability, and consistency with the Survivor Stories series. We won't intentionally change the substance of your experience or turn it into something it isn't.

You will have an opportunity to review the edited version before your story is published.

A few important things

Please submit your own story and experiences. If your story includes other identifiable people, be thoughtful about their privacy and about information that may not be yours to share.

Survivor Stories are personal experiences, not medical advice. We may ask for clarification or decline to publish medical claims that we cannot responsibly present.

There is no payment for published submissions.

When you submit your story, we’ll also ask you to review and agree to our publication terms, including permission for RecoverEase to publish and share your story.
